HFAS Open House
Written by Administrator
Wednesday, 30 April 2008

Holmdel First Aid Squad would like to invite Holmdel residents to an Open House on Tuesday, May 20th, at its Crawfords Corner Rd building.

The week of May 18 thru 24 is National EMS Week, and this year’s motto is “Your Life is Our Mission”. With HFAS answering four calls a day on average, the motto is appropriate.

The Open House will begin at 3PM with the re-dedication of the Squad’s flag pole and the raising of the American and Squad flags. Local scouts will be helping the Squad mark the occasion. This will mark the first time flags fly at full mast since the pole was blown down by the strong winds of last December.

Squad members will be present through the evening to demonstrate the ambulances and the equipment EMTs use during a call. Officers will be present to answer any questions concerning membership within the squad. Members will remain at 20 Crawfords Corner building until 8PM.

New members are always welcome and HFAS will arrange for training at no cost to the new recruit. The EMT-B certificate requires 120 hours of training, usually taken over several months. Undertaking an EMT-B certification is a challenge and shows a commitment a recruit makes to the Squad and to Holmdel. HFAS has found that most of its recruits achieve accreditation and start to ride on calls. The Squad is proud to have a high retention rate of members at this level, but can always use new volunteers.

Welcome to Holmdel First Aid Squad

Welcome to the Holmdel First Aid Squad’s website.  HFAS is an all volunteer squad serving our Township with 24/7 coverage with four Basic Life Support (“BLS”) ambulances operating out of two stations.

In recent years, the Squad has been responding to over 1,200 requests for medical assistance.  Holmdel Township is 17.9 square miles in the northern area of Monmouth County, NJ, and has over 14,000 inhabitants.  Our Township is a study of contrasts with such diverse historical sites as colonial era homes to the Telestar Building of Bell Labs fame which helped usher in our modern computer and telecommunication age.  The northern end of Holmdel is a prime example of suburban sprawl while the south end of the Township is suburban-rural with active farms.  Holmdel’s quiet brooks and streams form the headwaters for the Swimming River Reservoir, while the heavily traveled Garden State Parkway forms its backbone.  Within our borders a local theatre troupe performing plays while world famous acts perform at the PNC Arts Center.

Such diversity is reflected with in the membership of the Holmdel FAS of its Township as we are a cross section of our community.   However, there is one area of solidarity:  the determination of HFAS to provide the best first aid response for our fellow residents and for the travelers going through our borders.  This has been the goal of each member of the Squad since its founding in 1969, and we hope it will remain the trademark of our Squad for the next 40 years.  Please stay and browse through our website.  As you read about who we are and what we do, perhaps you will realize that the only difference between us and you is some training, which we will gladly share with you.  HFAS needs you, as you and your family may someday need us.
